Aloe barbadensis

(Aloe Vera) Leaf Juice*

Aloe vera leaf juice or ‘Aloe barbadensis’ is the juice extracted from the leaves of the aloe barbadensis plant. Aloe vera has been used traditionally for its wound-healing and anti-inflammatory properties. These properties are due to the high concentration of Polysaccharides in the plant, which help skin to repair damage. Natural skin care products often utilise aloe vera due to its high vitamin and antioxidant contents, along with the refreshing sensation it has on the face and body.

The Baby Bean Organics range uses aloe vera leaf juice instead of water as the base of our products due to its natural healing properties,  A and B vitamins, folic acid, enzymes, proteins, amino acids and triglycerides. It’s the perfect choice to soothe and refresh tender skin.

Ascorbyl Palmitate

(Vitamin C)

Ascorbyl Palmitate is a molecule created by combining vitamin C with fatty acid palmitic acid. The combination of these two ingredients has created a more stable form of vitamin C that is fat soluble, meaning it can penetrate the skin faster than traditional forms of water soluble vitamin C. Ascorbyl Palmitate also contains a blend of vitamins A, C and D. Combining these vitamins with vitamin C provides a high level of antioxidant protection to skin, erasing damage from environmental stressors like UV rays and pollution.

The Baby Bean Organics range of products use ascorbyl palmitate to soothe, repair and restore tender skin during bathing and moisturising.

Benzyl alcohol

Benzyl alcohol is an organic alcohol that occurs naturally in a range of fruits, teas and honey. It is used in skincare products to prevent bacteria from growing and contaminating the product. Benzyl alcohol is also less irritating than other commonly used preservatives.

The Baby Bean Organics range uses benzyl alcohol to maintain the integrity of our products and to ensure they remain safe and free from contamination.

COSMOS approved preservative for natural and organic cosmetics.

Butyrospermum parkii (Shea Nut) Butter*

Shea butter or ‘Butyrospermum parkii’ is an emollient-rich plant extract taken from the Karite tree. Rich in vitamins, antioxidants and fatty acids, the composition of shea butter actually mimics the skin’s own natural lubricants. This means that it has excellent soothing and moisturising properties that leave skin feeling soft and smooth.

Shea butter is used in the Baby Bean Organic Baby Lotion to nourish and naturally hydrate sensitive infant skin.

Calendula officinalis (Calendula) Flower* and Calendula Flower Extract*

Calendula flower and Calendula flower extract are derived from Calendula flowers. Used in traditional herbal medicine due to its purported anti-inflammatory and antibacterial benefits. modern day skincare products utilise Calendula for its soothing, healing and repairing properties. Calendula is also reported to be useful in treating skin abrasions, bruises and other minor wounds due to its healing properties.

Baby Bean Organics uses Calendula in our certified organic baby wash and lotion to naturally calm tender, sensitive skin.

Cetearyl Alcohol

Cetearyl alcohol is what is known as a ‘fatty alcohol’ as it is produced from fat. This white, waxy substance works to prevent liquid skincare products from separating into oil and liquid parts. It’s also commonly used to help make products easily ‘spreadable’ and/or to create a foaming or thickening effect when mixed with water. Cetearyl alcohol is non-drying and non-irritating when used in small amounts.

Cetearyl Olivate and Sorbitan Olivate

These two ingredients are derived from olive oil and used in conjunction with each other to create a natural emulsifier which stops incompatible ingredients, like oil and water, from separating. Cetearyl Olivate and Sorbitan Olivate are used in the Baby Bean Organics range to reduce water loss, soften the surface of the skin and create products that feel smooth and silky as they are applied. Hypo-allergenic and non-irritating Cetearyl Olivate and Sorbitan Olivate are both safe for use on all skin types, including infants.

Coco-caprylate is a naturally occurring emollient and emulsifier usually derived from coconut oil. Consisting of coconut alcohol, caprylic acid and capric acid, coco-caprylate falls into a category called alkyl esters. Coco-caprylate is used in the Baby Bean Organics range to provide non-greasy hydration, spreadability and a silky soft after feel on the skin. Some skincare products use synthetically manufactured silicon based compounds to achieve the same effect.

Baby Bean Organics prefers the natural approach. Coco-caprylate is safe for use on all skin types, including infant skin.

Coco-glucoside is a natural surfactant or cleansing agent that is derived from coconut oil and fruit sugar. Surfactants degrease and lift away surface debris by helping water to mix with oil and dirt so that it can be washed away. Coco-glucoside also helps create a gentle, non-drying foaming effect in products like the Baby Bean Organics certified organic baby wash. Coco-glucoside is ultra-mild and one of the most gentle cleansing agents available, making it the ideal choice for the Baby Bean Organics range.

Cocos nucifera

(Coconut) Oil*

Coconut oil is extracted from the dried inner flesh or meat of the coconut and processed to form an oil which solidifies at cooler temperatures. Coconut oil is rich in fatty acids, vitamins and proteins and has natural antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal properties. This is thanks to components like triglycerides, which help keep skin smooth and prevent moisture loss and dryness, lauric acid, which has strong disinfectant and antimicrobial properties, protecting skin from infection and proteins, which help with the rejuvenation of damaged cells and tissue repair. It is due to the unique composition of coconut oil that it is able to actually treat and repair damage to the skin while protecting against infection, soothing and moisturising the skin’s surface. Coconut oil is often recommended for use in the treatment of eczema due to its natural healing properties.

Coconut oil is a very versatile oil and similar in effectiveness to mineral oil in terms of its moisturising properties, but is a preferable option for the Baby Bean Organics product range due to its natural hydrating and healing properties and petroleum industry free associations. It is also wonderful to apply to tender infant skin due to its ability to soothe and comfort on contact.

Dehydroacetic acid

Dehydroacetic acid is a tasteless, odourless organic compound that is used as a preservative in skincare products and cosmetics. Dehydroacetic acid is both a fungicide and bactericide which means that it kills microorganisms and stunts their growth and reproduction, keeping skin care products fresh and sanitary. This is an important function as it helps prevent contamination and the decay of ingredients which can lead to rancid, unsafe products.

COSMOS approved preservative for natural and organic cosmetics.

Glycerin or Glycerol is a component of all animal and vegetable fats and oils.  It is usually derived from natural, plant based carbohydrates. Glycerine is referred to as a humectant as it helps prevent moisture loss from the skin by balancing water levels. Glycerin is combined with other emollients and oils to create a product that prevents dryness while softening and replenishing the skin.

Baby Bean Organics combines natural glycerin with antioxidant rich olive oil and nourishing ingredients like coconut oil and shea butter to create a soothing, highly moisturising product that hydrates and protects delicate skin.
